On July 17, a meeting of Ukrainian government officials with the heads and representatives of foreign representative offices and missions accredited in Ukraine took place at the Chornobyl NPP. The event was held in fulfillment of the mandate of the President of Ukraine and was dedicated to the implementation of the Peace Formula, in particular the implementation of points related to nuclear and radiation safety, - reports the Chornobyl NPP.

The event was attended by the heads of embassies of the G7 countries and the EU Representation in Ukraine, the heads and members of the diplomatic missions of Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Turkey, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Brazil, India, Spain, the Republic of Korea, Egypt and the Vatican, the Coordinator of the UN system in Ukraine. Representatives of the embassies of Indonesia, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Mexico, and Chile also joined online.
On the Ukrainian side, the head of the president's office and the ministers of energy and ecology participated. According to InfoAtom, representatives of the nuclear regulator did not take part in the event.
He guests of the ChNPP industrial site visited the spent nuclear fuel storage -2 (dry type) and the new safe confinement, where the first deputy general director of SSE ChNPP Valery Seyda told them the details of the construction and operation of these facilities.
After that, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the head of OP Andriy Yermak. He noted that the Chornobyl NPP was not chosen as the venue for its holding: representatives of the diplomatic corps had to see with their own eyes the consequences of non-compliance with nuclear safety. Andriy Yermak recalled that after the start of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, russian troops seized the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, where the world-famous nuclear disaster occurred in 1986, damaged the plant's equipment and set up their positions in radiation-contaminated soil.
"The most impressive and emotional part of the meeting was the story of Lyudmila Kozak, an engineer of the 1st category of the Physical Protection Service of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, who, using the example of her own history of being on the site of the plant from the first days of its occupation by russian troops, proved to the representatives of foreign diplomatic missions all the dangers and cynicism of involving nuclear facilities in the means of armed aggression and nuclear blackmail", - notes the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
Andriy Yermak emphasized that the Ukrainian peace formula proposed by Volodymyr Zelenskyi is designed to contribute to solving global crises and risks that the russian federation creates for the whole world with its actions. According to him, Ukraine will initiate the joint creation of international mechanisms that can be applied in the event of any armed conflict in the world and will be reflected in changes to international law and resolutions of the UN General Assembly.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ruslan Strilets, noted that in order to restore the world's nuclear security, Ukraine must have control over all such facilities as the Chornobyl and Zaporizhzhya NPPs. He estimated the damage to the environment from the invasion of the russian federation in the amount of more than 54 billion dollars. And he said that the International Working Group on the Environmental Consequences of War, co-chaired by Andriy Yermak and the former EU Commissioner for the Environment, ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Margot Wallström, deals with the issue of compensation for damages and countering ecocide of the russian federation.
The Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko informed the diplomats about the current situation and risks in connection with the ongoing russian occupation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, as well as the consequences of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP dam.
Government officials emphasized that the only way to ensure nuclear safety is to withdraw russian troops from the Zaporizhzhya NPP and return the plant to Ukrainian control. And that is precisely why radiation and nuclear safety, ecocide and immediate protection of the environment are important points of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi's Peace Formula, for the implementation of which the whole world must join forces.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mykola Tochytsky emphasized that the Ukrainian peace formula and its key elements are already supported in a number of international documents, in particular the resolution of the UN General Assembly dated February 23, 2023. He also informed that a number of elements of the Ukrainian peace formula have been adopted by various states that have shown readiness to become leaders or participants in the implementation of certain points.
Summarizing the meeting, Andrii Yermak noted that this is the third meeting in this format and said that the next one will take place at the end of August-September. It will also be at the facilities, the example of which should show the world that only joint efforts will allow to reduce the dangers and challenges created by russia for Ukraine and the world as a whole.
