The construction of power unit 5 is planned at Rivne NPP using the Westinghouse technology of the AP1000 reactor project with the capacity of 1100 MW. It is planned to be built by 2032. A 10-year construction schedule has already been approved. The first power units of this project are planned to be built first at the Khmelnytsky NPP, followed by the Rivne NPP.
This was announced by the President of “Energoatom” yesterday during his trip to the Rivne NPP, which was also attended by the directors of Ukrainian NPPs and heads of the SS “AtomProjectEngineering”.
According to the RNPP, the meeting discussed current production and personnel issues, situation with the security, and implementation of new promising projects.
As for the construction of RNPP-5, it was noted that a number of pre-project works have already been completed. In particular, this included the analysis of the existing and prospective use of water resources in the area where the nuclear power plant is located, analysis of the existing infrastructure of the RNPP and interconnections of the energy system in the western region of Ukraine. The pre-project activities were also carried out to determine the restrictive geological conditions for the selection of a power unit.
In addition to the construction of power unit 5 at the RNPP, it went about equipping the transport division of the RNPP with electric buses for personnel transportation and installing electric charging stations for them.
The participants of the meeting visited the site for the construction of future power unit 5 at the Rivne NPP and discussed the details and possible problems of construction.
According to the press service of the company, it is noted that the power unit with the capacity of 1100 MW will be built using the latest American technology AP1000 from Westinghouse.
